What is a Family Dentist?
Family dentists provide care for every member of your family and every stage of life. At Smiles for Life, we begin seeing children as young as two. For every age, we emphasize preventive treatments, such as dental exams and oral cancer screenings, to keep you and your family’s smiles healthy and beautiful.
Benefits of Family Dentistry
Since our team offers care for your whole family, you can schedule appointments together for more convenience and less hassle. For many families, a consistent oral care routine is easier when everyone goes to the same office. In addition, you can bring your children along to your appointment so that they have the opportunity to become more comfortable in the office as early as possible. Often, children who visit the dentist with their parents feel less nervous during their own appointments later on.
Our Services for Your Family
We understand that patients require different types of care at each stage of life. Our team works hard to tailor our treatments to suit the needs of the patient, whether they are aged two or 92, and offer a range of preventive services.
Routine Dental Visits
Drs. McIntyre, Whiting, Rockey, and Ash recommend you visit our office at least twice a year for a dental exam. During your appointment, one of our hygienists performs a professional cleaning to remove plaque and other buildup to prevent decay. Your dentist will also perform a comprehensive oral health exam to check for oral health issues such as cavities and gum disease. Once a year, we may take x-rays with our low-radiation digital radiography system to take a more in-depth look at your teeth. We also give kids the opportunity to join our Cavity Free Kids Club for every checkup that we find no cavities.
For kids and adults who are prone to tooth decay, we provide fluoride treatments. This naturally occurring substance can strengthen tooth enamel and prevent cavities. While we most often recommend this type of treatment for kids, individuals of all ages can benefit from fluoride if they have soft enamel.
If you need a family dentist, Smiles for Life offers comprehensive services for your entire family.
For kids and pre-teens, we often recommend placing sealants over the chewing surfaces of the back molars. The molars have lots of nooks and crannies, which make it easier to trap decay-causing bacteria. Sealants are clear plastic coatings which cover the chewing surfaces to literally shield against decay.
Oral Cancer Screenings
Our team also performs regular oral cancer screenings to check for signs of disease. Dr. McIntyre, Whiting, Rockey, or Ash can examine your tongue, lips, and other soft tissues for sores or lesions. Early detection and treatment of oral cancer is the best way to avoid serious health problems.
