This patient has implant-retained, fixed bridges on his upper and lower arches that blend in with his natural smile. To help him afford this life-changing treatment, we billed many services through Medicare, which offered him significant savings. We are Medicare Certified Providers and will help you seek coverage for more affordable treatment.

Dental Bridge Options

A dental bridge, or pontic, is designed to replace missing teeth. The custom restoration can be supported by neighboring teeth or by dental implants.

Traditional Bridges

A dental bridge, sometimes called a partial denture, is designed to replace one or more missing teeth to restore the balance, function, and appearance of your smile. Traditional bridges, or the pontic, rely on dental crowns that are placed on each adjacent healthy tooth for support.

This approach offers several benefits to patients. Total treatment time is much quicker because surgery is not required. This also results in a lower treatment cost. In many cases, dental insurance will cover the full cost of a traditional bridge. In addition, implant-retained restorations offer the best stability.

The downside is that traditional bridges require each healthy surrounding tooth to be shaved down to accommodate the dental crowns; also, this dentistry treatment doesn't prevent jawbone atrophy, which results in changes in the shape of the dental arches and face over time.

Implant-Supported Bridges

Bridges can be attached to dental implants, which are titanium posts designed to replace lost tooth roots. Implants require surgery, but they allow you to avoid the alteration of healthy teeth, and are the only solution that can prevent jawbone atrophy after teeth have been lost.

Though implants require a greater investment of time and money than a traditional bridge, we usually recommend that patients consider this option due to the many benefits it provides. If you are in good periodontal health and are a non-smoker, you are likely a candidate for dental implants.

What to Expect During Dental Bridge Treatment

After choosing the type of bridge you wish to receive, you will either undergo crown placement on adjacent teeth or undergo implant placement surgery.

Depending on your treatment needs, we can offer sedation dentistry options such as oral medication or IV sedation to help you feel comfortable throughout treatment.

The treatment area is prepared for your bridge. This will either involve removing some enamel from adjacent teeth to accommodate the crowns of a traditional bridge or the placement of dental implants. If implants are placed, you will require a three to six month healing period at this point.

Our dentists will take impressions of the tooth and send them to our dental lab to fabricate the bridge.

Skilled technicians will customize your bridge, or pontic, to replace your missing teeth and blend in with your smile. Crowns will be added to the prosthesis if we are placing a traditional bridge. The fabrication process can take about two weeks.

Temporary Restorations

In many cases, we can place a temporary bridge to restore your oral health and appearance while you wait for healing and the fabrication of the custom bridge.

Custom Bridge Placement

When your bridge is complete, our dentists will check to make sure it fits comfortably before bonding it into place.
