Last week, Dr. McIntyre, Becky, and their grandson Kyle were all able to travel to Haiti to not only provide dental care but also to build the children at the Kay Anj Orphanage a new playground! Becky and Dr. Mac travel to the Kay Anj Village in Haiti twice a year to provide dental care to the children in the orphanage and other members of the community. This time, Kyle was able to join them to complete his Eagle Scout Project. He built soccer goals and 9-square games for the children. He also provided basketballs and movies.
One of the most exciting things about this trip was the fact that the dental clinic now has a child x-ray sensor. This sensor was provided through generous donations to the clinic from our patients and friends of Helping Haitian Angels. X-rays are so important to be able to see everything that’s going on, including any decay or problems beneath the surface of the teeth. The x-ray machine was a huge step forward for the clinic. Dr. McIntyre and Becky want to continue raising money to be able to purchase an adult size sensor – hopefully by their next trip in April.

Becky said that the kids were so excited, especially about the soccer goal posts. “One night we had ‘roses’ where everyone shares the best thing that happened that day. A couple of the teenage girls were with our volunteer group and one them said for her rose: ‘the best thing is the new soccer goals, balls, movies - everything that Kyle did for them.’ I thought that was pretty cool coming from one of the kids.”
These trips to Haiti bless the lives of so many people in the Kay Anj Village, but it is clear that it also blesses the lives of the volunteers.
The orphanage is always in need of donations to keep things running, and the dental clinic has a goal to get an adult x-ray sensor by Dr. Mac and Becky’s next trip. If you are able to donate, go to www.helpinghaitianangels.org and click on the donate tab. Scroll down to “Apply my gift to:” and then click on KAV dental clinic. $5 or $10 adds up quickly, and every donation is tax deductible with a receipt provided.
